The Session
The governing board of a Presbyterian church is called “the Session.” The members of the Session are called “elders” and are elected and ordained by congregation to provide for the spiritual direction, mission and government of the church. The constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA) describes the responsibilities of the Session. Members of the Session are elected to 3-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
