I am also thankful for the open, kind, caring and GIVING offered by Litchfield and Litchfield Presbyterian specifically.

I had reached out for much needed assistance, and was given a response as well as an open armed offer for my needs quite quickly.

Thank you Pastor Steve, also to the congregation and not forgetting all of those who have made donations to the food pantry and other charitable services.

At this moment, I'm blessed with one less HUGE stresses that burdens me, and I will be thankful to all this evening for my child and I being able to make a nutritious meal with no worries.

We were in Litchfield from 1973 to 1978. Jack and Pat Jackson and Candace Hale were very active in the church, and great friends. Candace and I started the kindergarten in the newly constructed basement. She acquired the teacher and materials and I researched and acquired the necessary items and permits required by the state re building, safety, egress and operation of a private school. It was a wonderful time in our lives with our three children. There may still be someone there who remembers one of our children dressed as an angel with wings that nearly instigated a riot among the children during the Christmas nativity procession through the church. He saw the wings on his back and jumped up on the pews trying to fly. The other angels saw him and did the same thing! He DID eventually get a pilots license! I believe that I (Kurt) transferred my membership to Litchfield from the United Methodist Church of Alexandria Bay, NY and my wife, Else, by reaffirmation, having been baptised and a member of the German Evangelical Church in The Netherlands. We now live in FL and wish to become members of our local Methodist church. Please check if we did indeed become members and let me know so we can transfer membership. Congratulations on your 200th anniversary. We wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year and hope it's not too cold this winter.

Mr. Biron, I thank you for your comment in response to the flier our church sent to every home in Litchfield. I assure you, I have been examining my faith for many years, and though my faith is always maturing, I know with considerable clarity what I believe about Jesus the Christ and the message he embodies.

The point of our mailer is that there are many faithful Christian people who are not comfortable with contemporary evangelicalism, much less Christian fundamentalism. They often feel judged and marginalized simply because their faith seeks an expression that differs from the so-called evangelicals. I might say that your message helps me make my point. These seeking people, among whom I am happy to include myself and many in the Litchfield Presbyterian congregation, are "the rest of us" to whom the flier is addressed.

We at Litchfield Presbyterian are neither indifferent nor unclear about our beliefs. On the contrary, we are thinking Christians who are very passionate about what we believe and seek to put our faith in action at every opportunity.

Scholars differ, but as I read my bible, it seems the church at Laodicea was reproved for their complacency and misplaced trust. They trusted in their material prosperity and social status, rather than in the unconditional and unmerited love of God. There is no suggestion that God will "spit them out" simply because their theology was not of the "approved" sort.

If you are truly interested in learning more about what we believe, I invite you to visit our church at worship on any Sunday. Afterward I will be happy to have a conversation about the varieties of forms of expression the Christian faith has taken through the centuries.

In Christ, Steve Quinlan
