We were in Litchfield from 1973 to 1978. Jack and Pat Jackson and Candace Hale were very active in the church, and great friends. Candace and I started the kindergarten in the newly constructed basement. She acquired the teacher and materials and I researched and acquired the necessary items and permits required by the state re building, safety, egress and operation of a private school. It was a wonderful time in our lives with our three children. There may still be someone there who remembers one of our children dressed as an angel with wings that nearly instigated a riot among the children during the Christmas nativity procession through the church. He saw the wings on his back and jumped up on the pews trying to fly. The other angels saw him and did the same thing! He DID eventually get a pilots license! I believe that I (Kurt) transferred my membership to Litchfield from the United Methodist Church of Alexandria Bay, NY and my wife, Else, by reaffirmation, having been baptised and a member of the German Evangelical Church in The Netherlands. We now live in FL and wish to become members of our local Methodist church. Please check if we did indeed become members and let me know so we can transfer membership. Congratulations on your 200th anniversary. We wish all of you a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year and hope it's not too cold this winter.

Mr. Biron, I thank you for your comment in response to the flier our church sent to every home in Litchfield. I assure you, I have been examining my faith for many years, and though my faith is always maturing, I know with considerable clarity what I believe about Jesus the Christ and the message he embodies.

The point of our mailer is that there are many faithful Christian people who are not comfortable with contemporary evangelicalism, much less Christian fundamentalism. They often feel judged and marginalized simply because their faith seeks an expression that differs from the so-called evangelicals. I might say that your message helps me make my point. These seeking people, among whom I am happy to include myself and many in the Litchfield Presbyterian congregation, are "the rest of us" to whom the flier is addressed.

We at Litchfield Presbyterian are neither indifferent nor unclear about our beliefs. On the contrary, we are thinking Christians who are very passionate about what we believe and seek to put our faith in action at every opportunity.

Scholars differ, but as I read my bible, it seems the church at Laodicea was reproved for their complacency and misplaced trust. They trusted in their material prosperity and social status, rather than in the unconditional and unmerited love of God. There is no suggestion that God will "spit them out" simply because their theology was not of the "approved" sort.

If you are truly interested in learning more about what we believe, I invite you to visit our church at worship on any Sunday. Afterward I will be happy to have a conversation about the varieties of forms of expression the Christian faith has taken through the centuries.

In Christ, Steve Quinlan

To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:
15 ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 ‘So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.

If you are one of "the rest of us", you are lukewarm and lukewarm is not what we need in this community or the world. That is why we find ourselves in such turmoil in this country, our state and the rest of the world. Pastor Quinlan, I believe that you need to examine from where you come from and decide what it really means to be a believer in Jesus Christ Our Lord.

I will pray for you.

greatly enjoyed reading the article by pastor Quinlan.. I have been focused on this actual topic for sometime. I am fascinated with the transcendence of Christ and how it has the power to change the way we live and our internal focus daily. Thank you for your article and like the depth in which you tackled this topic. You still make people think!

On behalf of the town and its citizens, please accept our thanks for all the efforts and support that you provide.
The Church has contributed significantly to the people in Litchfield who find themselves needing assistance.
Your efforts and willingness to share are very much appreciated.

Since I do not believe in "original sin" passed on through sexual reproduction, the question makes no sense to me. If anyone (including Jesus of Nazareth) is a sinner it is because that person 'knows what is good and does it not, ' which is the biblical definition of sin.

Census employment testing in Litchfield!
Please help me to get the word out about employment opportunites with the Census 2010 in your area by making this information available to your congregation.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE 2010 CENSUS
MAKE MONEY AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

In spring 2009 thru early 2010, several thousand temporary census jobs will be available for qualified applicants throughout New Hampshire. Assignments will last 5 to 10 weeks. This is your opportunity to be part of something exciting and challenging that will have a direct impact on your community.

The pay is between $11 and $18 per hour with most Census jobs paying around $15.00 an hour.

The first step is to take a basic skills test and to supply two forms of identification. The Litchfield Town Hall will be hosting 3 testing sessions: Saturday 1/31 at 9:00 AM, Thursday 2/5 at 10 AM, and again Thursday 2/5 at 4 PM. The application form as well as a sample test are available online for downloading at: http://www.census.gov/2010censusjobs/

Litchfield Town Hall is located on Liberty Way just off Hillcrest Road and minutes from Rt. 3A. If directions are needed please call Litchfield Town Hall, 603.424.4046.

Come, be tested and make a difference.
