Spring and New Beginnings are on the way!
As the time approached to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. Luke 9:51 On Passion Sunday we considered the suffering of Jesus, especially that of relationships: Betrayal, Denial, Desertion, Injustice, Public humiliation, and finally God turning away from his Son. It is pretty emotional, and hits me more than watching The Passion’s portrayal of physical pain. The emotional suffering of severed and broken relationships seems intolerable.
What was Jesus’ motivation? Why didn’t he give up, and call the 10,000 angels at his disposal? 1) It was Jesus’s Destiny, his call, planned before the world began. 2) It was Jesus’s Character – that of love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. 3) He was the Great Warrior, come to win the war against evil. You too have 1) a Destiny or call. You too can 2) “put on Christ’s” character of love, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness, wherever it takes you; 3) And God has given each of us a piece of the war against evil to fight, whether cruelty to animals, human trafficking, child abuse, homelessness, or something else.
